Do you dream of climbing the big walls of Yosemite, Le Petit Dru, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, or the Verdon Gorge, the largest canyon in Europe? Do you like to climb in the cool air and angled light of fall (and spring)? Or do you prefer to swing axes on vertical ice in the cold depths of winter? How about mixing it up with some dry tooling? Maybe jamming your way up sandstone splitters in the dry desert climate of the American West is more your style? Want to do it all? On every medium? In every season? Look no further. Tom Grant Guiding has you covered!

Alpine Rock Climbing

Alpine rock climbing is one of my favorite pastimes and the immaculate granite above Chamonix is truly world class. There are grades to suit everyone, from grade 4 scrambles to overhanging grade 7 splitter cracks. Climbing perfect golden granite above a magnificent glacier is not an experienced to be missed. There is nowhere like Chamonix for its accessibility and the for the potential to climb challenging, high quality routes each day. I’ve also guided rock climbs all around the Alps, from the famous granite spires of the Salbitschen, to Val delle Orco, Piz Badile and some lesser known hidden gems. I keep myself in good rock climbing shape and can efficiently climb through 7a on alpine trad routes; so whether you are a novice or expert climber capable of following hard pitches, I will be able to pick a route to suit your needs/skill level.

Previous climbing experience necessary. Season typically runs from April to October.

Ice and Mixed Climbing

A beautiful and tranquil Italian village tucked away in the mountains, Cogne in Val d’Aosta, Italy (2 hours from Chamonix) is an ice climbing Mecca for all abilities. From the most classic grade 4s to overhanging mixed routes, Cogne has something for everyone, from complete beginner to expert. Whether you would like some basic instruction or to tackle a more challenging route, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Chamonix also has some of the world’s best alpine mixed climbing, steep granite corners plastered with ice offer incredible routes for all levels, sometimes accessed by ski in spring and winter.

There are also options for ice climbing in the Chamonix Valley itself depending on conditions.

Max 2:1, prices start at €650/day 1:1, €700/day 2:1

Come climb the massive 1000m granite walls of Yosemite Valley, the remote desert towers and sandstone splitter cracks of southern Utah, or the multi-pitch paradise of big wall climbing in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison in central Colorado. The American West has some of the best and most scenic climbing destinations in the world. The venues tend to be more wild and more remote than those in the Alps. Outside of Yosemite and the Front Range of Colorado, you are often climbing alone, with no one else around, in true wilderness. However, if you are looking for camaraderie and/or ease of access, the Flatirons and Eldorado Canyon, just outside Boulder, Colorado, and Red Rock Canyon near Las Vegas, Nevada are world class climbing venues within a couple hours drive from a major international airport. Eldorado Canyon offers a great diversity of routes in a dramatic setting, from single-pitch moderates to runout 5.13 climbing that will test your skills to the fullest. Commonly referred to as “5.7 Heaven,” Red Rock Canyon is known for having some of the biggest and best concentration of moderate routes in one setting in the United States. And in the single pitch mecca of Indian Creek, in the remote canyonlands of Utah, there are a lifetime’s worth of high quality, technical routes to bolster your skill set and climbing resume. Note: The U.S. has very specific rules and regulations for guiding on public lands. Depending on the venue, additional resources and/or guide services may have to be employed. Call to discuss.

Prices vary according to group size, companion guide fees, permits/licensing, etc. Please contact me for a quote.
